If you want a business mentor, then there are a few things to consider. You can opt to meet with your Mentor either face to face or virtually (ie. MS Teams or Zoom). Face to face has its obvious advantages, as you can connect a bit more easily when you are in front of someone, but it also has its disadvantages. With today’s technology it is a lot easier to communicate, share documents and collaborate on line. You can even use video recording and artificial intelligence to make notes of the meeting, then us AI to summarise notes and even write actions out!
Face to face mentoring | Virtual Mentoring |
---|---|
It is easier to connect. | It is ok to connect, you can easily see each other, hear each other, It is similar to being in the same room, but not exactly the same as you can’t shake hands. |
You have to travel and then there are costs incurred for both parties. | There is no travelling time or expenses. |
It requires more planning as you have to schedule the meeting and the travel around other things you have to do. | It’s super easier to slot in a meeting in your diary as you don’t have travelling time, so you can better optimise your time. |
You either need to huddle around 1 machine or use a projector or print out documentation so you can see the same information. | You can sit in front of your own machine easily and see the other parties and share documents together. |
You can use other cameras to record which will require editing. | Sessions can be recorded to review afterwards. |
You have to manually make notes and take actions. | AI can support sessions with transcribing audio and make notes and summarising actions. |
You have fewer choices of mentors as people are constrained by travelling distances and associated time/cost implications. | You are not bound by where your mentor or you are. You can select anyone globally, if they have broadband access, then use virtual tools to support your sessions. |
